Can I use the the Tota Comfort Noseband™ on my current bridle?

Yes, most any bridle can be retrofitted to have the Tota Comfort Noseband attached, you may need to buy a converter strap. Look at your current bridle if it has buckles on both the left and right sides of the horse’s face to adjust the current noseband you are all set. Just remove the standard noseband on the bridle and fasten the Tota Comfort Noseband into place, you may need to adjust the fit, but no converter strap will be needed. If your bridle only has a buckle on one side of the horse’s face that adjusts the noseband you will need to add a converter strap to your order when you buy. Completely remove your current noseband then thread the converter strap into place, through the browband and over the crown in the same way your traditional noseband was installed. Now you will have the ability to fasten the Tota Comfort Noseband on to your bridle and adjust it for a perfect fit. If you have received a Tota Comfort Noseband and forgotten to request the converter strap, don’t worry an easy work around is to take an spare flash strap cut the buckle off, punch matching holes into the end you removed the buckle from and then use it as a converter strap. After you have a great ride with your new Tota Comfort Noseband contact us and we will send you a strap for future use. Do I need a flash with a Tota Noseband?

With most horses we find no need for a flash to keep your horse’s mouth closed when using the Tota Comfort Noseband as the chin strap on the bridle will help align the horse’s jaw, keeping the mouth close much more humanly than a traditional flash. When adjusting the second strap it will only need to be comfortably snug to accomplish the same work of a very tight flash noseband. For the rare horse that needs a flash with the Tota Comfort Noseband we can attach one to your noseband if you request it at the time of order or in the future, for a small cost.

How is the Tota Comfort Noseband™ different than the Micklem bridle?

There are a number of ways that the Tota Comfort Noseband is different than the Micklem Bridle. First it is designed to be used on a snaffle or double bridle. The Tota Comfort Noseband works to stop the forward pull of the bridle on the horse’s poll and the nerves along the sides of the horse’s face and the TMJ joint. Additionally, Tota System allows the bit (or bits) remains free to move independent of the noseband system, as in a traditional bridle, ensuring uninterrupted communication from the riders hands to the horse’s mouth. The jaw strap on the Tota Comfort Noseband is also different as it fits lower on the horse’s face to help move more of the bridle parts away from the horse’s facial nerves and to change to overall angle of force on the horse’s poll. Our noseband is approved by — USEF, Equine Canada and the FEI for use with BOTH the snaffle and double bridle. The ability to use the Tota Comfort Noseband with both snaffle and double bridles is a training advantage because it offers consistent bridle fit, feel and function no matter if the horse is in the snaffle or double bridle.

Can I use a Tota Noseband on a snaffle or/and double?

Yes, one of the advantages of the Tota System is that it works on both a snaffle or double bridle giving the horse and rider a consistent feel no mater which bridle is being use.

The full size Tota Comfort Noseband is 11.5 inches between the cheek pieces and overall the crank will adjust from 20-30 inches around the nose. The Cob will run 10 inches between the cheek pieces over the nose and overall about 17-25 inches around the nose. The oversize is about 1.5″ larger than the full.

On a full size bridle the bit straps adjust between 42″-46.5″ long,  a cob is about 2″ shorter and a oversize about 2″ bigger. If you measure the leather of your existing bridle this should give you a good idea of where to start in selecting a size.

Can any of the Tota double bridles be used as a snaffle?

Yes! The Exuma, Andros and Cayman all can have a curb bit strap that can be removed to turn a double into a snaffle, but if you want to do this often the Cayman is the best option as its the simplest to change back and forth.
